For the owner, his dog is always the smartest and most beautiful. However, there is no denying that there are hard-trained breeds of dogs, but there are breeds that love and know how to quickly execute human commands.

As psychologist Stanley Coren wrote in the 90s of the twentieth century, dogs have three aspects of intelligence:

  1. adaptive intelligence (ability to independently cope with problems);
  2. working intelligence (learning ability);
  3. and instinctive intelligence (that is, an innate talent to perform certain tasks).

In his book “Dog Intelligence,” Koren showed the results of a lengthy study that included a survey of 199 judges from American and Canadian dog clubs about the training of 100 different breeds. According to him, the answers to the question about which dogs are the smartest in the world were remarkably consistent. However, many judges stated that there were exceptions in each breed.

Here the smartest dogswho, as a rule, learn a new team in less than five seconds and submit to the owner at least 95% of the time.

10. Australian shepherd dog

This is a completely focused on serving man and driven breed of dog, whose representatives are very attached to the owner. Like most of the other smartest dog breeds in the top 10, the Australian shepherd dog (aka the Australian healer) is happy when busy. And if the dog is bored, be sure that she will find something to do on her own, but you may not like it. Bored "Australians" often exhibit destructive behavior, for example, chasing cats. Such a pet is categorically not suitable for a sedentary or lazy owner.

9. Rottweiler

Muscular Rottweilers are famous for their meekness in the family, as well as for their strength and courage in protecting “their people”. Careful training and socialization is an absolute necessity for Rottweiler puppies so that in adulthood the dog does not become a source of problems for the owner and others.

8. Papillon

Although the papillon is one of the most beautiful dogs in the world, it is something more than a “sofa pet”. In fact, the papillon is one of the smartest decorative dog breeds in the world. These animals are friendly, and very active. For a while, the papillon may quietly sit on the owner’s lap, but soon he will go in search of something interesting.

Like many small dogs, papillons are a bit stubborn. However, if you can make learning interesting (for example, offer a dog a tasty reward), your pet will learn very quickly and willingly. Teach this cute little dog a lot of fun tricks and you will amaze your friends.

7. Labrador Retriever

In addition to its good hunting qualities, the Labrador Retriever is an excellent swimmer and is also used as a rescue dog. Representatives of this breed are often trained to guide blind people.

Labrador Retriever is an active, playful and deeply loyal breed. These dogs love to learn and can be trained to do anything.

Without a lot of exercise and mental stimulation, Labrador Retrievers can get bored and disorderly, especially in their younger years. They are also prone to gain weight. However, with proper care, this breed is ideal for a beginner dog lover and for families with small children.

6. Sheltie

Shetland Sheepdog is smarter than it seems at first glance. This is an extremely friendly dog, always wanting to learn and cater to the owner. Sheltie immediately and forever become attached to its owner and even adapt to his mood.

5. Doberman Pinscher

Initially, this obedient and hardworking breed was bred by the German Luis Dobermann, who served in the tax police. He needed a companion dog that could effectively protect both the owner and his property. Modern Dobermans are much less aggressive than their ancestors, and, with proper upbringing, will become wonderful family dogs. However, Dobermans need constant training, as well as training, walking and other activities that will occupy them mentally and physically.

4. Golden Retriever

This is one of the most popular dog breeds on the list and one of the smartest dogs in the world. Like its relative, the Labrador Retriever, the Golden Retriever can learn to do anything in the shortest possible time. His intelligence and love for people make this breed one of the best for working as a companion dog.

3. German shepherd

The top 3 smartest dog breeds are opened by the well-known German Shepherd. She is famous for her beautiful appearance, and high intelligence, and energy. German shepherds can be successfully used in almost any field: from guarding objects and searching for drugs and explosives to serving at the border and protecting a child for a walk.

These dogs can learn most activities in just a few steps. After training, the German Shepherd will enthusiastically and diligently do what you ask, and then look forward to the next task to be completed.

2. Poodle

Depending on the size, poodles are large, small, dwarf and toy poodles. But they are all equally smart and have great learning abilities. The poodle was bred as a hunting dog and continues to be a diligent helper and faithful companion of man. You can easily teach a poodle to balance on a ball, jump through a hoop or do a whole host of other things.

1. Border Collie

Perhaps this is the smartest of all dogs. If most dogs in our ranking have the intelligence of a two year old, then a border collie can be as smart as a four year old.

Extremely energetic, obedient and efficient Border Collies are always ready to learn something new (like an Australian healer). And if you do not keep the representative of this breed in a constant tone, he will find his own way to have fun.

Border Collies can do almost any job a person can offer. But most of all, these dogs love the work that makes them move and use their brains at the same time.

Keep in mind that purebred is not the only condition for the presence of intelligence in a dog. There are so many very smart dogs of mixed breeds. There are also many dogs that are more or less intelligent than their breed's reputation suggests. Often a dog’s intelligence is determined by how you interact with it. Dogs learn best when they are motivated to receive rewards or lose excess energy.

The best way to develop your dog’s intelligence is to keep it in a mental and physical tone. Walk with her, play fun games, patiently and without physical impact learn the execution of various commands and your pet will be the smartest dog in the world.
